Underneath The Silvery moon
(Grandpa's Song)

See these shoes that sit here before you
in the corner of the floor
hand me downs from grandpa land
he used them in some foreign war
It don't mean nothing another day
do you think you could come & play?
But this old heart that sits here before you
a little torn a little frayed
If I ask you really nice
I think that you could be swayed
You could be swayed

And I know you will be coming
back again one day soon
& this tune you will be humming
underneath the silvery moon yeah

And this old hat that sits here before you
same old hat my grandma wore
she bought it in some foreign contry
then emigrated to these shores
She could cook that special food
she could cheer up your grey mood
with these old eyes that look up to you
a little blurred a little scared
I heard a secret from a good friend
Who told me that you really care
He said you care

And I know you will be coming
back again one day soon
& this tune you will be humming
underneath the silvery moon yeah

My grandpa fought in World War 1
on the wrong side of a gun
In a world so full of hate
It's a wonder that he turned out great
He moved the folks to Canada
picking lettuce in the sun
Well grandma worked from seven till eleven
making soup sent down from heaven
And grandpa played harmonica
with those hands as big as gods
As big as god

And I know you will be coming
back again one day soon
& this tune you will be humming
underneath the silvery moon yeah

So as I sit right here before you
A little worse for wear & tear
I got pictures I could show
of a land so far from here
My grandpa fought in World War 1
& grandma brought to him a son
& this old shirt that sits on a nightstand
same old shirt my father shared
Hides a heart that's tired & lonely
but please remember that I care
I'll always care

And I know you will be coming
back again one day soon
& this tune you will be humming
underneath the silvery moon yeah

See these shoes that sit here before you
in the corner of the floor
hand me downs from grandpa land
he used them in some foreign war

la la la la la la la la la la yeah la la la la la la la la la la
