Whisper Out Your Name
We headed way out east Carolina
We didn't make much progress in the rain
Through all the wild breezes
Whinos bums & sleazes
I could see behind those eyes that you didn't care
Well I put my trust inside your weathered suitcase
And it's tucked behind the corner of the stairs
From the presence of December
To a time I can't remember
We swore our hearts forever to be true
But love somtimes distorts the distant future
And what was then can never be here now
I could see you in your backyard
Like a faded picture postcard
And sometimes at night I whisper out your name
Well your mother told you that we'd never make it
And although I hate to say it well she was right
I remember she'd be screaming
While your big brown eyes were beaming
And I'd be running out the kitchen door
Well the other day I looked for that old churchyard
But ???? these new strip Malls keep on growing
The church has long been smashed
I guess God & progress clashed
And there's barbed wire round the field where we first kissed
But love somtimes distorts the distant future
And what was then can never be here now
I could see you in your backyard
Like a faded picture postcard
And sometimes at night I whisper out your name
Sometimes at night I whisper out your name
Sometimes at night I whisper out your name
